13 HOURS WITH HEZBOLLAH
Never thought I’d be find myself at Israel’s south Lebanon border staring at palatial homes of Hezbollah and their accomplices, just 500 feet away from me. Car license plates and yellow Hezbollah flags erected were in full view of my camera lens.
This is the northern most point of Israel, high on top of a hill, with Mount Hermon disappearing into the clouds before us.
An Israeli Defense Forces’ Ground Forces Major, a 15-year member of the Knesset politician and an Honest Reporting Chairperson accompanied me to the zone only four young IDF foot soldiers are protecting.
I asked two of the soldiers: “How do your parents feel about you serving here where the tunnels are dug and where Hezbollah’s within an arm’s reach of your country? “They don’t know. We don’t tell them. Why worry them?”
was the reply.
In the 13 hours with the Major (whom I will not name), I received an encyclopedia of information on the realities of the Middle East. This is a man to whom books were dedicated, who has the ear of the Prime Minister, and who works with American Homeland Security and FBI. This is also the Major who strategized and oversaw the Gaza withdrawal. (More on that below).
Anyone who thinks they understand the Middle East conflict or the future of its players, or thinks they understand the environment in which Israel lives and thrives without first hand involvement...is simply a fool.
Below are my Cole’s Notes on what I learned today, including the Major’s direct quotes.
First, I’d like to preface below by saying that the Major is convinced (by intelligence and physical evidence) that Iran’s Hezbollah is prepping for a war 10 times the size of Yom Kippur conflict. The question is not “if”, it’s “when”.
Hezbollah shifted the world from terrorism to guerrilla warfare in the last 5 years. They now possess an estimated 300,000 rockets that are not only accurate, but can be launched simultaneously dozens at a time. This renders Israel’s Iron Dome utterly useless. Iran and Hezbollah talk about firing 2000 rockets per day into Israel. This was not possible 5 years ago. Different rules of engagement are now inevitable.
Second, right next to me on this date with Hezbollah, was a young American man who works in the American anti-terrorism units and who has first hand information on Hezbollah’s activities abroad. According to him, $1 Billion annually is budged to Hezbollah by Iran. Most of Hezbollah’s money laundering and narcotics operations are conducted in TBA (a zone in South America close to Uruguay) and the US/Mexico border. Think about that...
Hezbollah is a conglomerate of families, like the mafia. It is a collective of loyal family members consisting of brothers/fathers/cousins/uncles who only serve the will of Khomeini of Iran, the de facto leader of Hezbollah.
Our seminar at the border began with these words by the Major: “CNN stands for Certainly Not News , UN stands for Useless Nudniks”.
With that in mind, here are my bullet points of the higher education I received today:
The real conflict in the Middle East is not who should be the ruler of Islam ruling the Middle East, but who should be the ruler of Islam ruling the world. (Re-read.)
The Arab/Iran conflicts are not religiously based. They are all about power within the same religion. But the ideology comes from Islam’s call for Jihad.
“If you use the word “Intifada”, you’re erroneously parroting the other ideology . The word means “popular uprising “. What goes on here against Israel is a planned and strategic war carried out in stages. Not a public resistance movement.”
Gaza pull-out: IDF is a very small, contrary to popular belief. It had 30% of all infantry committed to protecting 8000 Jewish citizens living in the Gaza region. This left the rest of the country extremely volatile. Pull-out was the only choice. Now read the next quote by the Major outloud...
“Real geniuses know how to choose between two bad options. Any fool can make a decision between a good and a bad option.”
Air Force has never won a war anywhere. Ground Infantry does. You can’t make any real changes until the foot soldiers are in. The bad guys are all under ground: tunnel networks. Bombs from the air are effective at winning wars only if the enemy and all their ammunition are congregated in one spot. But they never are.
“Muslim Brotherhood is the predominant ideology of the Middle East. Death for the sake of Allah is the highest aspiration. The west doesn’t understand this. Nor wants to believe it. It makes no sense to aspire to death in the Judeo-Christian world. So the west skips it. It’s uncomfortable. It’s un-relatable. Skipping it is a western response and is detrimental to understanding the bad guys.”
Muslim Brotherhood is at the root of all Middle East conflict and ideology. Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Khomeini, and his current successor, Ali Khamenei, draw all inspiration from the Brotherhood.
Read “Genealogy of Evil” by Patterson. The author discovered that Islam is rooted in Fascism. 25,000 Muslims served in Hitler’s army. The Grand Mufti of Jerusalem hosted and openly supported Hitler. If you google “Hamas Salute” or “Fatah Salute”, you’ll see the Hitler/fascist salute. Try it.
Iran’s Khamenei operates his ideology on the Kutub texts, rooted and based entirely on ideology of fascism.
“Nuclear Iran is an existential, immediate threat. Erdogan is not a prime threat, but one to watch.”
“Today the only power players in the Muslim world are Egypt and Iran. Syria, Saudi Arabia, Libya Iraq - don’t even register. Jordan is barely hanging on to its military might.
Abdel Fattah el-Sisi loves Israel. He rules as an Egyptian, not as a Muslim and not as a member of the Muslim Brotherhood like his predecessor. Israel serves as barrier protection against Syria for his Egypt and he doesn’t entirely trust the Americans. He allows Israeli Air Force missions over the Sinai.
“Middle East, outside of Egypt, is utter chaos”.
“The worst strategic decision was the pull out from Middle East by Bush Jr. That decision was authored by Clinton and advanced by Obama. Trump’s pull outs have been minimal but have the worst perception.”
“Sunni vs. Shiite is a concept of intellectual simplicity. Shiite Iran supports Sunni Hamas and Al Queda and Islamic Jihad - all Sunnis. Military strategy to gain supreme domination in the Middle East is much more important than difference in religious strata. (Sunnis are considered higher in status.)
Tribalism is overstated as a theory for Middle East. Family connections supersede Tribalism in the Islamic world. Narrow ethnicity (family ties) supersedes and dictates religion, ie: Sunni vs. Shiite. Narrow ethnicity is what defines Hezbollah.
“Iran’s muscle is ‘Persia against the Arabs’. “
Persians invented chess . Khomeini is playing chess. He’s good at it. Iran is smart, sharp, technological. Khamenei wants the Persian empire back. America stands in the way. He has to take Middle East first, before he takes America - his ultimate goal.
The definition of Al Queda is
“Base of Jihad”.
Hamas, Erdogan, Islamic Jihad, Fatah, Iran’s Khamenei- are all Muslim Brotherhood.
“Russians are far from our worst enemies. Khamenei said “biggest enemy is America “. He hates Israel’s connection to America MORE than America’s connection to Israel.” (Think on that last sentence.)
Hezbollah is not Iran’s proxy like Hamas, but a wholly owned subsidiary of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard. It is not a terrorist organization, it is a gorilla army! Orders come directly from Iran.
Hezbollah leaders are religious clerics and students of Ayatollah Khomeini. They undergo one year of religious indoctrination by the Mullahs before their Hezbollah indoctrination.
Hezbollah answers only to the supreme leader, Ali Khamenei. So when the orders come down from him - they’re carried out without any wiggle room. It’s a religious order-command. Hezbollah is an enemy gorilla ARMY! Not terrorists.
Fatah, Hamas and Al Quada have non-cleric leaders. As opposed to Hezbollah.
Hezbollah builds palatial homes on the Lebanon border. (Depicted in the photos.) Lebanese citizens use the top two floors for living quarters. Hezbollah uses the basement floors for storage of weaponry. In time of assault on Israel, the Lebanese citizens (who are the extension of Hezbollah) are instructed to use the weaponry in their home to attack Israel. They do. BBC and CNN will report this as aggression against Lebanese civilians. Precisely the goal of Hezbollah.
“The Geneva Convention on war specifies that citizens engaging in war activities without uniform or lending their homes to storage of weaponry are legitimate targets. CNN and BBC do not care for conventions when reporting their fake news.”
Israel actually has no borders . Borders are borders when they’re agreed upon. Israel’s Arab neighbours don’t recognize Israel’s existence. Hence, no borders. Obama’s famous call for Israel to return to 1967 borders at the UN is factually erroneous. They never existed. Period.
Yasser Arafat’s Fatah and PLO was a proxy for the KGB: trained and funded Arafat and his activities for decades.
Yasser Arafat is not his real name. The real name has narrow ethnicity identification. He has to get rid of this if he wanted to rule over the Middle East. Same for Saddam Hussein. His name exposed his narrow ethnicity as a Sunni. He had to get rid of it in order to rule over the Shiites in Iraq. Disguise of family ties (which supersede everything and expose loyalties) is a popular strategy for Middle East power players.
Fatah spelt backwards is “Hataf”, meaning “sudden death”. The full name of Arafat’s PLO in Arabic has an acronym, “Hataf”. Arafat hated the connotation, so he reversed the word and made up “Fatah”.
The idea of Israeli settlements as a deterrent to peace with the Palestinians is dispelled easily and immediately by one historical fact: the formation of the PLO in the far away sixties.
Main purpose of underground tunnels is not to run terrorists to blow up Israeli kindergartens. It’s to provide Hezbollah’s 12-20 assault companies (on the Lebanon side) with a diversion, a path for their lead units to hinder Israeli defenses. So eliminating tunnels doesn’t solve all problems. It only prevents one bit of their planned operation.
Israeli town of Metula (2 km squared landmass) has 3000-4000 inhabitants. It is located in the northern most part of the country right on the Lebanon border, near Mount Hermon. It is almost entirely encircled by Lebanon and Syria and is only a kilometre away on the other side of the mountain range. The tunnels are dug in such a way so that this town becomes cut off from the rest of Israel in a major conflict. Hezbollah is currently planning to disable Israel’s defences of its Metula citizens. Israel cannot allow this to happen. Secret plans for defence of the town are on the table that the Major could not discuss. (The town is the site of “Canada Center”, a state of the art skating facility that has produced three Olympics-competing figure skaters.)
Currently there are many underground tunnels Israel is aware of and many more are being dug. Israel is very strategic about allowing their digging (Hezbollah exposes its strategy that way) and when to blow them up. “We keep the enemy busy and employed as long as possible.”, the Major said.
Al Queda’s 9/11 was a military failure by all accounts;
- First plane hit at 8:46 am, 23,000 people were at work in the towers at that time. Officially, 9 AM is the beginning of the working day. Had they struck at 10 AM, they would’ve murdered approximately 200,000 people.
- If they would’ve flown lower into the buildings, more calamitous and faster damage would set in, affecting surrounding buildings and preventing the escape of almost 20,000 people.
- Terrorists wanted to highjack 6 planes, only took 4.
- One plane was a total failure and hit nothing.
- Pentagon was only affected by the force of the ground explosion in the parking lot. No direct hit. If they landed on Pentagon - they would’ve taken out the Pentagon entirely. (Pentagon’s admission)
- Terrorists didn’t take away passengers’ cell phones and didn’t prevent passengers from establishing a resistance .
“Ehud Barak forgot to read the large print. Always read the large print. Hezbollah wants to eliminate Israel. How do we know? They tell us.”
... and a few other gems by the Major:
“Friends come and go, enemies accumulate.”
“Read The New York Times to keep up your blood pressure.”
“There is one superpower in the world: America. An uncomfortable superpower, but a superpower.”
“American currency isn’t backed by gold, but by steel: Aircraft planes at sea..!”
“Islam was never good to Jews. A common misconception.”
“In order for tyranny to succeed, you must have more people willing to die for the tyrant than you do for the rebellion. Iran’s rebellions won’t succeed. Neither will Chinese.”
“He who wants peace better be prepared for war.”
“Preventive policy that succeeds will always be condemned. You can’t prove a negative”.
“It’s a free country. You have the right to disagree with me and be wrong.”
Below are photographs I took on this most eye-opening trip to visit the Hezbollah stronghold on the Lebanon border. I stood meters away from the tunnels, from the Hezbollah homes which contain basements full of firepower and ammunition ready for employment on the word of Iran. Only four 20-something IDF soldiers patrol and protect the Israeli side. And a whole lot of unseen intelligence.
I drew a general conclusion from my 13 hours with Hezbollah under the tutelage of the Major: Israeli intelligence is a necessity no different than Jewish intelligence against four thousand years of persecution. Thinking out of the box is an evolutionary derivative of our DNA. And no other nation or people has ever walked in our shoes nor understood the odds stacked against us in Israel today. We prevailed. Israel will always prevail.
